Brocade Sharara

I found this fabric at Joann and fell in love with both the print and the price ($4/yard); initially wanted to get a lehenga made out of this fabric with some really nice gotta… but then saw a picture where Kareena Kapoor wore this green brocade kurta but I was not so sure how it would fit especially near the arms and waist. Therefore, I decided not go with the exact design instead got it made like a jacket. It is bit easier to fit a kurta that opens in the front especially fitting under the arm comes out much better than in a plain A-line kurta. Brocade is a thick fabric as you might already know so this was a risky project but as you can see it came out quite alright.  I was not very happy with the length of the kurta/jacket… wanted it really long but as I was giving instructions from US to a tailor who is in India this minor detail fell thru the cracks ;-). Remember, to try something like this be ready to be disappointed; it does not always come out really well and it won’t be tailor’s fault ;-). I got it stitched with a collar in which case dupatta was not needed so easy t

o carry in a party where you have a lot of dancing and running around.
